A number of students get nervous when tests approach.  Sometimes they don’t do their best when they are nervous.  In some classes, tests are worth a large portion of a final grade.  The FCAT can even determine whether or not students get any intensive classes or advanced classes.  Teachers often give tips to their students to do better on tests and relax.

Seventh grade Social Studies teacher Claire Moore said, “I always encourage my students to answer the questions they know first, then the ones they don’t know.”

On the day of a test, 7th grader Sarah Walruth gets very nervous.  “I try to stay focused and don’t talk about being nervous.”  This technique helps her because it keeps her focused on something.  “Sometimes being nervous keeps you alert and focused,” she said.

To stay alert it is important to eat a good breakfast on the day of the test.  Also be sure to bring the right materials for the test.  Wear comfortable clothes on the day of the test.

Moore said that test anxiety has very big affect on student's grade.  Many students go through this so don't feel like you are alone.  Students get nervous if the test is a timed because they may not feel like they can finish.  Students should take their time and focus on one question at a time.
