Different
kinds of music can be found anywhere around the world. For those
kinds of music certain instruments are needed. Then one band broke
those rules. That was the Dallas Brass.
The Dallas
Brass is a band with six people in it. There are two trumpet players,
one tuba player, one trombone player, one percussion player, and one
French horn player. Although the band is called the Dallas Brass,
none of the band members are from Texas. The band is called the
Dallas Brass because that’s where the band first started. The band
was founded over 25 years ago.
On Friday,
March 13th, the Dallas Brass played with some of the
advanced band members from TMS and five other schools at Mt. Dora
High School. “We started when we were in 4th and 5th
grade except one of us started in 7th grade,” said
Michael Levine, the Dallas Brass’s trombone player. Levine
said his motivation was for kids to stay in school.
Mat McIntosh, the tuba player
for the Dallas Brass, showed the audience what multi-phonics is;
singing and played into a tuba at the same time. McIntosh also
played a solo he wrote himself called, The Warrior Comes Out to
Play.
“The movie
that made me want to play the trumpet was Star Wars,” said DJ
Barraclough, another member of the band. Inspiration to play an instrument can
come from anywhere, anything, or anyone. Barraclough can also play
the trombone. The newest member of the Dallas Brass is Jeff Handel.
Handel joined the brass three years ago. He plays percussion in
the band. Anyone can join the Dallas Brass if they’re old enough
and really--I mean really!--good at an instrument.
Over 25 years
ago the Dallas Brass was first formed and now they’re well known.
At the concert on Friday the 13th, all of the tickets
were sold out. The Dallas Brass is taking America by storm.
A very loud storm. |
