On Friday, March 13th, members of the Future Christian Athletes club (FCA) waited with excitement for the end of the school day and start of the weekend.  The first thing on the long list of fun was helping to serve at the second FCA dinner.  Two years ago, Mr. Dave Harris led them in a Chinese Steakhouse dinner, and this year was just as amazing as that. The dinner wasn’t Chinese, but Italian.

“The all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner was great for us and was fun,” says FCA member student Mikyla Saldivar.

The students rushed around as fast and as gracefully as possible trying to serve all of the guests seated inside and all the others that were overflowing the outside pool deck. There were some parts of the evening where the students had to work extremely hard to keep their guests happy and calm while the spaghetti cooked.  They had to keep offering them a salad and even dessert before the dinner was done and ready to be delivered to the tables.  They even had a take-out for those who couldn’t stay.

FCA director and TMS math teacher Dave Harris said, "I was really pleased with the turn out; as well as surprised.  I think that the kids had fun and learned to work hard for others.”

That proves that with a little bit of encouragement and some friends to work with any teenager can work hard not for money, but for the fun and the giving your time to others.  Of course all the money that went into the tickets will be used for FCA. Some of the money will go into students' camp funds for FCA Camp 2009.

The day before, FCA held a breakfast for the teachers and staff at Tavares Middle School.  FCA students served breakfast happily to their past and present teachers with many laughs and a great time.  The breakfast was a hit.

“I am glad that the students were willing to serve others and that it was a good time,” said Mr. Harris.  Harris has done this for the past three years and every year has been great.  “The breakfast was great and I am glad students can take time to do that,” said Keyboarding teacher Mrs. Mortimer.

Teachers were served a delicious meal of pancakes, sausages, Danishes, oranges, and choice of coffee, orange juice, water, and cranapple juice.  “I thought the breakfast was great and the food was delicious,” said a Language Arts teacher.

With amazing service the students had an amazing time and learned the fun and importance of serving others.  Everyone is hoping for another great time next year and more great events to come this year.
