Imagine having to live in the time that monks did. All of the students in Mrs. Moore’s class got to experience what it was like to be a monk through a Middle Ages simulation. During this time period not only do students learn things about the monks, they get to live part of their lives. “When you were a monk you couldn’t talk, prayed a lot, and didn’t get much sleep,” said student Shelbie Bennett.

Lots of student got to enjoy the pleasure of simulating monk life. But one of the most popular parts of the project was the simulation of fasting by eating bread and drinking some water. That was what students pretended to have for dinner and that was it. Monks also had to get up in the middle of the night to go pray.

Monks don’t talk at all so if you are a talkative person you might not enjoy the life of a monk.  Monks usually did work somewhere such as farming and taking care of houses and bridges.

So being a monk isn’t just all pray and getting small meals but you also have to maintain your farmland and any other thing that they give you to do. Monks have a lot to do in their daily lives, such as no talking, praying, and taking care of different places such as farmland, bridges, and lots of other things.

The simulation was difficult, but in the end, students learned a great deal by walking in the shoes--I mean bare feet--of monks.
